Overview

BI 473494 is a synthetic peptide drug developed as a long-acting analogue of islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), also known as amylin. It was designed to act as an amylin stimulant, targeting the regulation of glucose and appetite, with potential therapeutic use in obesity and diabetes mellitus. The drug was originally discovered by Zealand Pharma and further developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. Its mechanism of action involves stimulating the activity of islet amyloid polypeptide, which plays a role in glycemic control and satiety. Clinical development reached phase I trials for obesity but was discontinued due to business reasons before further efficacy or safety data could be established[1][2][3].
