Overview

BI-671800 is an orally administered small molecule drug developed as an antagonist of the prostaglandin D2 receptor 2 (also known as CRTH2 or DP2). It was investigated primarily for the treatment of asthma and seasonal allergic rhinitis. The mechanism of action involves blocking the CRTH2 receptor, which plays a key role in mediating allergic inflammation by promoting eosinophil activation and chemotaxis. Clinical trials showed that while BI-671800 was safe and well tolerated, it did not provide significant clinical improvement in asthma patients when added to inhaled corticosteroid therapy. Development appears to have been discontinued after phase 2 trials[1][3][4][5][7].
