Overview

BI 705564 is an orally administered, small molecule inhibitor of Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It was investigated primarily for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The drug acts by inhibiting BTK, leading to reduced B-cell activation and effects on allergic skin responses. Clinical studies demonstrated efficient target engagement, inhibition of ex vivo B-cell activation, and proof of mechanism in allergic responses. Mild bleeding-related adverse events were observed, likely due to inhibition of platelet aggregation via BTK inhibition[1][2][3][4][5].
