Overview
BI 706321 is an investigational small molecule kinase inhibitor developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for the treatment of Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammatory condition of the digestive tract. The drug is designed to blunt the inflammatory response to the gut microbiome, potentially reducing symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss in patients with moderate to severe Crohn's disease. It has been evaluated primarily in combination with ustekinumab (an approved biologic for Crohn’s) in phase II clinical trials. The mechanism of action involves inhibition of phosphotransferase (kinase) activity relevant to immune-mediated inflammation[2][4][1].
