BI 764524 is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting semaphorin 3A (Sema3A), developed for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy, particularly in patients with diabetic macular ischemia (DMI) and moderately severe to severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy. By binding and neutralizing Sema3A, BI 764524 aims to re-vascularize ischemic areas of the retina and reduce vascular leakage, potentially overcoming limitations of current anti-VEGF therapies and laser treatments. The drug is administered via intravitreal injection and has shown promising results in early-phase clinical trials, including stabilization or reduction of foveal avascular zone area and evidence of new blood vessel formation in treated eyes. It is being developed by Boehringer Ingelheim[1][4][5][6].
