BI8271 is a selective neuropeptide Y receptor type 2 (NPY2R) agonist developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It is primarily investigated for its metabolic effects, specifically its ability to induce weight loss and improve glycemic control in models of obesity and type 2 diabetes. BI8271 mimics the action of peptide YY (PYY), a satiety-inducing hormone, and has been shown to significantly potentiate the weight-loss effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists like semaglutide.
