Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIAKŌS is a trademarked line of antimicrobial wound care products developed for the management and cleansing of acute and chronic wounds. The product family includes the BIAKŌS Antimicrobial Wound Gel (a hydrogel wound dressing), the BIAKŌS Antimicrobial Skin and Wound Cleanser, and the BIAKŌS Antimicrobial Skin & Wound Irrigation Solution. These products are designed to disrupt biofilm microbes, eliminate a broad spectrum of pathogens (including Gram-positive bacteria such as MRSA and VREF, Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, spores, and viruses), remove debris from wounds, support normal wound-healing pH levels, reduce odor-producing microbes, and create an environment conducive to healing. The main active ingredient is polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB), with additional components including poloxamer 407 (surfactant), vicinal diols (humectant), EDTA (chelator). Indications include partial- and full-thickness wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers (stage I-IV), post-surgical wounds, first- and second-degree burns, grafts/donor sites. Laboratory studies have shown efficacy in disrupting biofilms within minutes; clinical use supports biocompatibility with no significant safety concerns reported[1][4][5][7].
