Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Biatain Ag** is a soft, absorbent polyurethane foam dressing containing a patented silver complex, designed to provide a broad antimicrobial effect in the management of moderately to highly exuding acute and chronic wounds. When the foam dressing comes into contact with wound exudate, silver ions are continuously released into the wound bed, exerting antimicrobial activity against a wide spectrum of bacteria, including MRSA, VRE, and Pseudomonas, for up to 7 days. The foam’s 3D structure ensures optimal absorption and retention of exudate, reducing peri-wound maceration and the risk of infection. Biatain Ag is indicated for wounds at risk of delayed healing due to bacteria, such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, second-degree burns, donor sites, postoperative wounds, skin abrasions, and can be used in conjunction with compression therapy. The primary mechanism is the local release of ionic silver, which acts as a preservative and antimicrobial agent within the dressing, thus supporting wound healing and serving as a barrier to bacterial penetration[4][7][9].
