Biatain Ibu is a medicated foam dressing developed by Coloplast A/S for the management of painful chronic wounds, such as venous leg ulcers. The dressing consists of an absorbent polyurethane foam containing ibuprofen (0.5 mg/cm²) integrated into the foam matrix. Upon contact with wound exudate, ibuprofen is released in a sustained manner directly into the wound bed. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which prevents the synthesis of prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation. This localized delivery provides effective analgesia at the wound site while maintaining a moist wound-healing environment and minimizing systemic side effects associated with oral NSAIDs.
