BIBB 1464

BIBB 1464 is a small molecule oxidosqualene cyclase (OSC/lanosterol synthase) inhibitor that was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for evaluation as a lipid-lowering agent. Its mechanism involves the inhibition of OSC, a key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, which leads to a reduction of cholesterol production. Clinical trials focused primarily on its pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability in healthy male volunteers and in subjects with hyperlipidemia. BIBB 1464 was tested in single and multiple oral dose studies, including bioavailability comparisons and analysis of the effect of food.
