Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIBF 1120 capsules charge 1 is an experimental soft gelatine capsule formulation of nintedanib (BIBF 1120), a small molecule triple receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. Nintedanib potently targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR 1-3), fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR 1-3), and platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFR α/β). This specific formulation, containing 150 mg of nintedanib, was evaluated in a Phase 1 crossover clinical trial (NCT02182193) in healthy male volunteers to assess its pharmacokinetics and relative bioavailability compared to another capsule formulation (charge 2) and an oral drinking solution, aiming to establish an in-vitro-in-vivo correlation (IVIVC). While nintedanib is approved under the brand name Ofev for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and Vargatef for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the 'charge 1' capsule represents a specific investigational formulation used during clinical development.
