Overview

BIBP-3226 is a potent, selective, non-peptide antagonist of the neuropeptide Y Y1 receptor (NPY1R) and the neuropeptide FF (NPFF) receptor. Originally developed by Boehringer Ingelheim, it was the first non-peptide antagonist developed for the Y1 receptor and has been widely used as a pharmacological tool in scientific research to investigate the physiological roles of NPY1R in appetite regulation, anxiety, stress adaptation, and cardiovascular function. BIBP-3226 exhibits anxiogenic and anorectic effects in animal models and has served as a lead compound for the development of subsequent generations of Y1 receptor antagonists.
