Overview

BIBP-5371 is an orally administered small-molecule calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist that was initially developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for the potential treatment of migraine and other CGRP-mediated disorders.[1][3] As a first-generation CGRP antagonist, it acts by selectively blocking CGRP receptors, thereby inhibiting CGRP-induced vasodilation and neurogenic inflammation implicated in migraine pathophysiology.[1] Development of BIBP-5371 has not progressed beyond early clinical pharmacology, and its global R&D status is listed as pending with no active late-stage development programs reported.[1]
