BIBR 1048 low1

BIBR 1048 low1 is a low-dose oral formulation of dabigatran etexilate (BIBR 1048), a small molecule prodrug developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. Upon oral administration, dabigatran etexilate is rapidly converted by esterases to its active form, dabigatran (BIBR 953 ZW). Dabigatran is a potent, competitive, and reversible direct thrombin inhibitor that binds to the active site of both free and clot-bound thrombin, thereby preventing thrombus formation. BIBR 1048 low1 was evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial to assess its bioavailability and the impact of co-administration with the proton pump inhibitor pantoprazole in healthy subjects.
