Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIBR 1048 MS Capsule C is an experimental oral capsule formulation of dabigatran etexilate (BIBR 1048 MS), a small molecule prodrug developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. Upon oral administration, dabigatran etexilate is rapidly converted by esterases to its active form, dabigatran (BIBR 953 ZW). Dabigatran is a potent, competitive, and reversible direct thrombin inhibitor (DTI) that binds to the active site of both free and clot-bound thrombin, thereby preventing thrombin-mediated conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin and inhibiting coagulation. BIBR 1048 MS Capsule C was evaluated in a Phase 1 crossover bioavailability study in healthy male subjects to assess its pharmacokinetic profile and the impact of co-administered proton pump inhibitors, such as pantoprazole, on its absorption.
