Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIBR 1048 MS Capsule G is an experimental oral capsule formulation of dabigatran etexilate mesylate (BIBR 1048 MS), developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It was evaluated as one of several investigational formulations (including Capsule E, Capsule F, Tablet H, and a drinking solution) in a Phase 1 bioavailability study to assess the pharmacokinetics of the active metabolite dabigatran (BIBR 953 ZW) with and without co-administration of the proton pump inhibitor pantoprazole. Dabigatran etexilate is a small molecule prodrug of dabigatran, a potent, reversible, and direct thrombin inhibitor that binds to the active site of thrombin, inhibiting both free and clot-bound thrombin to prevent thrombus formation. This formulation was investigated for the prevention of thromboembolic events, such as venous thromboembolism (VTE).
