Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BIBR 1048 MS Tablet H is an experimental oral tablet formulation of dabigatran etexilate (BIBR 1048 MS), developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. Dabigatran etexilate is an orally bioavailable double prodrug of dabigatran (BIBR 953 ZW), a potent, nonpeptidic small molecule direct thrombin inhibitor. It specifically and reversibly inhibits both free and clot-bound thrombin by binding to its active site, thereby preventing the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin and inhibiting thrombus formation. Tablet H was evaluated alongside other experimental formulations in a Phase 1 bioavailability study (NCT02170636) to assess its pharmacokinetics and the impact of co-administration with the proton pump inhibitor pantoprazole in healthy subjects.
