Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**BIBW2** is an investigational allogeneic therapeutic melanoma cell vaccine developed by Boehringer Ingelheim for advanced malignant melanoma. The phase 1 study evaluated intradermal administration of vaccine components containing allogeneic melanoma cells, including an IL-2-secreting cell component generated by transfection with the human interleukin-2 gene. The intended mechanism was to present shared melanoma-associated antigens while providing local IL-2-mediated immune stimulation at the injection site, thereby augmenting tumor-specific host immune responses.
