Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of bicalutamide, an antiandrogen that blocks androgen receptors, and metformin, an antidiabetic medication with antineoplastic properties. This combination has been studied for its potential enhanced efficacy in treating prostate cancer. Preclinical studies showed the combination significantly reduces prostate cancer cell growth more than either monotherapy, with different mechanisms in AR-positive cells (reduced proliferation, G1/S cell cycle arrest) versus AR-negative cells (enhanced apoptosis).
