Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bicanova is a bicarbonate-buffered peritoneal dialysis solution developed by Fresenius Medical Care for the treatment of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). It is utilized in both continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) to facilitate the removal of metabolic waste products and excess fluid from the blood. Unlike traditional lactate-buffered solutions, Bicanova uses bicarbonate as a physiological buffer, which is intended to improve biocompatibility and maintain acid-base balance more effectively. The solution is typically supplied in a dual-chamber bag system (such as stay-safe or sleep-safe) to maintain the stability of the bicarbonate and glucose components until they are mixed immediately prior to intraperitoneal administration.
