This approach aims to manipulate the pH-dependent binding of protein-bound uremic retention solutes, such as indoxyl sulfate, to albumin. By altering the pH environment, the treatment seeks to increase the free fraction of these toxins, thereby enhancing their removal during filtration, which is typically inefficient under standard dialysis conditions.
