Overview

Biejia Ruanmai Decoction (BJRM) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed and investigated by researchers at Fudan University, specifically within the Department of Neurology at Huashan Hospital. The decoction is primarily indicated for the treatment of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD), a condition characterized by damage to the small arteries, arterioles, capillaries, and small veins in the brain. Based on TCM principles of "softening hardness and dissipating clumps" and "promoting blood circulation to remove stasis," the formula typically includes ingredients such as *Carapax Trionycis* (turtle shell), *Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae* (Danshen), *Radix Astragali* (Huangqi), and *Hirudo* (Shuizhi). Clinical research suggests that BJRM may improve cognitive function, reduce the progression of white matter hyperintensities, and enhance microvascular integrity by modulating endothelial function and reducing neuroinflammation.
