Overview
BIFICOPEC is a synbiotic therapy developed by Jinling Hospital in China for the treatment of slow transit constipation (STC). It consists of a combination of a triple-viable probiotic preparation (marketed as BIFICO, containing *Enterococcus*, *Bifidobacterium*, and *Lactobacillus*) and pectin, a soluble dietary fiber that functions as a prebiotic. The therapy is designed to modulate the gut microbiota and enhance gastrointestinal motility. Clinical evidence from a Phase 2 randomized, placebo-controlled trial (NCT02844426) indicates that 12 weeks of BIFICOPEC supplementation significantly increases bowel movement frequency, improves symptom scores, and decreases colonic transit time in adult patients with STC.
