Overview

This combination consists of two major genera of lactic acid-producing bacteria, *Bifidobacterium* and *Lactobacillus*, paired with maltodextrin, which typically functions as a carrier, stabilizer, or prebiotic. These probiotics are widely used to maintain or restore the natural balance of the intestinal microbiota. *Lactobacillus* species primarily colonize the small intestine, while *Bifidobacterium* species are more prevalent in the large intestine. Together, they work by competing with pathogenic microorganisms for adhesion sites and nutrients, producing antimicrobial substances like lactic acid and bacteriocins, and enhancing the intestinal barrier function. Maltodextrin is often included to stabilize the live cultures and may provide a fermentable substrate for the bacteria. This combination is commonly indicated for the management of digestive health, including diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and antibiotic-associated dysbiosis.
