Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium + Lactobacillus (often formulated as Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Enterococcus triple viable) is a compound probiotic product containing live bacterial strains, typically including *Bifidobacterium longum*, *Lactobacillus bulgaricus*, and *Enterococcus faecalis*. It is classified as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP). The formulation is primarily used to regulate gut microbiota and has been marketed for gastrointestinal conditions such as slow transit constipation and diarrhea. Recent clinical research, including studies by the General Hospital of Western Theater Command, has explored its efficacy in treating insomnia, particularly in high-altitude environments. Its mechanism of action involves the gut-brain axis, where it modulates the production of neuroendocrine markers such as melatonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and serotonin (5-HT), and increases the levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the gut.
