Overview

Bifidobacterium + Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a combination of probiotic bacteria investigated for its potential health benefits, particularly in the management of skin conditions like atopic dermatitis (eczema) and infantile eczema. [4, 5] Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host. [4] This specific combination is believed to work by modulating the gut microbiome, which in turn influences the host's immune system to reduce inflammatory responses. [3, 6] Clinical studies have shown that this combination may improve the severity of atopic dermatitis, particularly in food-sensitized children. A meta-analysis also suggests that a mixed strain of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium can effectively reduce the incidence of eczema in infants under three years old. [12] However, the effectiveness can be strain-specific, and some studies show that Lactobacillus rhamnosus may be more effective than certain Bifidobacterium strains for eczema prevention. [7, 8]
