Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium adolescentis CCDM 368 is a research-stage probiotic bacterial strain isolated from the fecal samples of healthy human adults. It is maintained by the Czech Collection of Dairy Microorganisms (CCDM). The strain and its surface-derived components, particularly the exopolysaccharide Bad368.1 PS (also known as BAP1), are being investigated for their immunomodulatory and anti-allergic properties. In preclinical models of ovalbumin-induced airway allergy, intranasal administration of BAP1 has been shown to attenuate allergic inflammation, reduce eosinophil infiltration in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and modulate cytokine production by inhibiting Th2-related pathways (such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13) while promoting Th1-related responses (such as IFN-gamma). Additionally, the live bacterium has been studied ex vivo for its potential inhibitory effects on platelet activation pathways (COX-1, ADP, and TRAP-6) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
