Overview

Bifidobacterium adolescentis CCFM1061 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain being investigated as a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) for the treatment of metabolic disorders, particularly type 2 diabetes. Isolated and maintained by Jiangnan University in the Culture Collection of Food Microorganisms (CCFM), the strain has demonstrated significant anti-diabetic effects in preclinical models, including the reduction of fasting blood glucose levels, improvement of oral glucose tolerance, and amelioration of insulin resistance. Its efficacy in these models has been reported as comparable to the thiazolidinedione drug rosiglitazone. Additionally, CCFM1061 has been shown to improve lipid profiles (total cholesterol and HDL-C) and exhibits rapid intestinal colonization, suggesting potential for restoring gut microbiota balance to manage metabolic health.
