Overview

Bifidobacterium adolescentis OP820 is a microbiome-derived, strict anaerobic probiotic strain investigated for its immunomodulatory and anti-tumor properties. It specifically adheres to the mucin-rich glycocalyx of the intestinal epithelium by inducing the expression of MUC13 and MUC17. In preclinical models, OP820 has demonstrated the ability to resolve chronic intestinal inflammation and suppress colorectal cancer progression. Its mechanism involves the modulation of cytokine and stromal networks, including the upregulation of repair-associated genes (CCL8, TGFA, MMP12) and the suppression of pro-inflammatory markers (TSLP, FLT3LG, IL18). Notably, it has shown efficacy when administered intravenously in tumor models, where it localizes within the tumor microenvironment to reprogram the immune state and reduce tumor burden.
