Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium animalis BD400 is a probiotic strain developed by Bright Dairy & Food Co., Ltd. for the prevention and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It functions as a microbiome therapy that restores intestinal microbiota homeostasis and strengthens the intestinal mucosal barrier by up-regulating tight junction proteins such as occludin-1, MUC-2, and ZO-1. In preclinical models of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA), oral administration of BD400 significantly reduced arthritis clinical scores, paw swelling, and joint damage. The therapeutic effect is mediated through the down-regulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-17A) and the modulation of the histidine metabolic pathway, specifically reducing levels of 1-methyl-L-histidine and urocanate.
