Overview

Bifidobacterium animalis lactis VES002 is a specific strain of probiotic bacterium from the Bifidobacterium genus, used as a live biotherapeutic in dietary supplements. It is characterized by high digestive tract resistance and strong mucosal adhesion. In human clinical studies, VES002 (LMG P-28149) was administered with fructo-oligosaccharides to evaluate its impact on intestinal transit, bowel movements, and gut microbiota composition in subjects with infrequent bowel movements. The mechanism involves modulation of the gut microbiome, improvement of intestinal barrier function, and enhancement of mucosal immunity, primarily through effects on tight junction genes such as zonula occludens 1 and Toll-like receptor 2. Its probiotic activity likely includes restoration of normal microbial balance and immunomodulation by increasing IgA secretion and supporting barrier integrity[2].
