Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A multi-strain probiotic combination consisting of *Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis* BB-12, *Lactobacillus acidophilus* LA-5, and *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* GG. This live biotherapeutic product is designed to modulate the gut microbiota and systemic immune system. Clinical evidence from the ProPACT (Probiotics in the Prevention of Allergy among Children in Trondheim) trial indicates that maternal supplementation with this combination from late pregnancy through early breastfeeding significantly reduces the cumulative incidence of atopic dermatitis in offspring. The mechanism of action involves a reduction in the proportion of Th22 cells and a decrease in the expression of pro-inflammatory proteins such as CCL11 and IL-17C in the children.
