Overview

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BL-99 is a patented probiotic strain originally isolated from the feces of a healthy two-year-old Chinese infant[1][6]. It is a non-pathogenic, gastric acid and intestine juice-resistant bacterium that has been shown to modulate intestinal inflammation and promote intestinal function in preclinical models[4][6]. Clinical studies demonstrate its efficacy in alleviating symptoms of functional dyspepsia (FD) by altering the gut microbiome composition, increasing short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing bacteria, and improving gastrointestinal health[8][10]. The strain also supports immune health by enhancing macrophage phagocytic activity and antibody production in animal models[4][7]. It is generally recognized as safe (GRAS), with no dose-dependent toxicity or mutagenicity observed in preclinical safety studies[6][7].
