Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BLa80 is a commercial probiotic strain being investigated for its therapeutic effects. A preclinical study in a mouse model of ulcerative colitis (UC) demonstrated that BLa80 could alleviate symptoms, reduce intestinal inflammation, and decrease serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17. The mechanism involves modulating the gut microbiota by increasing its diversity and selectively promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria, including Romboutsia and Adlercreutzia. BLa80 is produced by Wecare-bio Probiotics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. Additionally, it is being evaluated in a clinical trial as an adjuvant treatment for children with acute watery diarrhea.
