Overview

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis GCL2505 + inulin is a synbiotic combination consisting of the probiotic bacterial strain *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* GCL2505 and the prebiotic dietary fiber inulin. Developed by Ezaki Glico, the GCL2505 strain is a human-derived probiotic known for its high survival rate and proliferative capacity in the intestinal tract. The combination works by modulating the gut microbiota, significantly increasing total bifidobacteria counts and promoting the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), particularly acetate. These metabolites interact with host receptors such as GPR43 to influence energy metabolism and lipid profiles. Clinical studies in Japanese adults have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing visceral fat area, increasing resting energy expenditure, improving defecation frequency, and enhancing cognitive and vascular endothelial functions.
