Overview

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis HN019 + oligosaccharides is an investigational synbiotic combination. It combines the probiotic strain *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* HN019 (also known as Bifidus DR10) with prebiotic oligosaccharides. [1, 5, 8] This combination was evaluated by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in a clinical trial where it was used to fortify milk for children aged 13-36 months. The study aimed to determine its effectiveness in preventing diarrhea and pneumonia, as well as improving growth and development. [Context] The probiotic component, DR10, was developed by the New Zealand dairy co-operative Fonterra and has been shown to support gut and immune health. [3, 4, 7] Synbiotics work by providing beneficial microorganisms (probiotics) and a substrate (prebiotics) that promotes their growth and activity within the host's gut.
