Overview

MN-Gup is a specific probiotic strain of *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* developed for the management of metabolic disorders, particularly Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). It functions as a live biotherapeutic that modulates the host's gut microbiota composition. This modulation leads to altered levels of serum bile acids (such as deoxycholic acid and lithocholic acid) and increased secretion of the incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). These systemic changes contribute to improved glycemic control, reduced inflammation, and decreased oxidative stress. In clinical trials, MN-Gup has been evaluated both as a monotherapy and as part of a synbiotic mixture with galactooligosaccharides (GOS), where the synbiotic formulation (MN-Gup-GOS) demonstrated enhanced efficacy in lowering fasting blood glucose and improving insulin resistance.
