Overview

Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis XLTG11 is a specific probiotic strain of the species Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, used as a live biotherapeutic product and dietary supplement for gut health and immune modulation[5][6][8]. This strain has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical and clinical studies for improving antibiotic-associated diarrhea, functional constipation in children, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)[2][5][6][8]. Its mechanisms include alleviating inflammation, enhancing intestinal barrier function by upregulating tight junction proteins (such as claudin-1, occludin, ZO-1), inhibiting the TLR4/MYD88/NF-κB signaling pathway to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines, increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines, promoting short-chain fatty acid production (acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid), and modulating gut microbiota composition[5][8]. In IBD models and clinical settings it has shown both preventive and therapeutic effects on colitis symptoms when administered alone or in combination with mesalazine (5-ASA)[2][7]. The strain is robust under acidic conditions and elevated temperatures compared to other Bifidobacteria[3].
