Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium bifidum NCDO 2203 is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria. It is a key active ingredient in the combination product Infloran®, where it is paired with Lactobacillus acidophilus. [21, 24] This live biotherapeutic product works by colonizing the gut, helping to restore a healthy intestinal microbiome, supporting gastrointestinal immune function, and providing a barrier against pathogenic bacteria. [34, 38] It is primarily used in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) for the prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and late-onset sepsis in premature or low-birth-weight infants. The contents of the capsule are typically mixed with breast milk, formula, or other liquids for oral administration. [21, 25]
