Bifidobacterium bifidum R0071, also known as Rosell-71, is a specific strain of probiotic bacteria developed and manufactured by Lallemand Health Solutions. [15] It is a gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium naturally found in the human colon, especially in newborns. [15] The strain is well-documented and has been investigated in numerous clinical trials, often as part of multi-strain synbiotic formulations. For example, it is a component of Lallemand's Probiokid® formulation, which also includes other probiotic strains and fructooligosaccharides. [7, 13] B. bifidum R0071 functions by modulating the gut microbiome, adhering to intestinal cells, creating a barrier effect against pathogens, and regulating the host's immune system by reducing pro-inflammatory responses. [15] Clinical studies have explored its efficacy in various areas, including the prevention of allergic diseases in infants, management of symptoms in connective tissue diseases, irritable bowel syndrome, and post-operative Crohn's disease.
