Bifidobacterium breve BB05 is a specific psychobiotic strain of the Bifidobacterium breve species investigated for its therapeutic potential in managing psychosomatic diarrhea and associated mental health conditions. It functions by modulating the microbiota-gut-brain axis, which leads to the restoration of gut microbial diversity and significant alterations in fecal neurotransmitter concentrations. Clinical evidence indicates that BB05 supplementation increases levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) while reducing acetylcholine (ACH), epinephrine (EPI), and norepinephrine (NANE). These physiological changes are associated with the relief of diarrhea symptoms, anxiety, and depression, particularly in populations experiencing stress-related gastrointestinal distress such as college students.
