Overview

Bifidobacterium breve Bif195 (DSM 33360) is a specific probiotic bacterial strain developed by Chr. Hansen. It is a live biotherapeutic product administered orally, primarily investigated for its ability to prevent and reduce small-intestinal enteropathy and ulceration induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin. The strain exerts cytoprotective effects on the gastrointestinal mucosa without interfering with the COX-2 inhibitory activity of NSAIDs. It has also been studied for its potential in managing small intestinal Crohn's disease and modulating the gut microbiome, although clinical results in Crohn's disease have been mixed.
