Overview

*Bifidobacterium breve* CBT BR3 is a probiotic bacterial strain, originally isolated from infant feces in South Korea, that is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in treating intestinal inflammation and metabolic disorders such as obesity. Developed by Cell Biotech, this live biotherapeutic has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models of colitis by augmenting goblet cell regeneration and enhancing intestinal barrier function. In veterinary studies involving overweight and obese dogs, supplementation with CBT BR3 resulted in significant reductions in body weight, body condition scores, and metabolic markers including serum triglycerides and leptin. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of gut microbiota composition and the production of metabolites that regulate immune responses and metabolic homeostasis. It is frequently studied as a single agent or in combination with other probiotics like *Lactiplantibacillus plantarum* CBT LP3.
