Bifidobacterium breve CCFM1025 is a live probiotic (psychobiotic) bacterial strain developed by researchers at Jiangnan University in China. As a live biotherapeutic product, it targets the gut-brain axis to modulate neurobiological pathways associated with mood and stress. The strain influences the serotonergic system by regulating tryptophan and serotonin metabolism, and it modulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and glucocorticoid receptor (Nr3c1) expression. Clinical studies have investigated its efficacy in treating major depressive disorder (MDD) and stress-induced insomnia, showing potential to increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels and activate the pCREB-c-Fos pathway.
