Overview

Bifidobacterium breve CCFM1067 is a specific probiotic strain of the species *Bifidobacterium breve* that has been investigated for its neuroprotective effects via the microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA). In preclinical models of Parkinson's disease (PD), oral administration of CCFM1067 has demonstrated the ability to protect dopaminergic neurons, suppress neuroinflammation and glial cell hyperactivation, and alleviate oxidative stress. It works by modulating the intestinal microbiota—specifically reducing pathogenic bacteria like *Escherichia-Shigella* and increasing beneficial genera such as *Akkermansia*—and increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like acetate and butyrate. These actions help maintain the integrity of both the intestinal and blood-brain barriers, suggesting its potential as an oral supplement for the prevention or treatment of neurodegenerative conditions.
