Overview

Bifidobacterium breve CCFM683 is a specific probiotic bacterial strain belonging to the Bifidobacterium genus, characterized by its ability to produce conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) from linoleic acid. Developed and studied primarily by researchers at Jiangnan University, this strain has demonstrated potential therapeutic effects in preclinical models of colorectal cancer (CRC) and psoriasis. In CRC models, CCFM683 prevents tumorigenesis by producing CLA, which activates the PPAR-γ receptor, subsequently inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway, promoting tumor cell apoptosis, and enhancing intestinal barrier function through the up-regulation of tight junction proteins like MUC2 and Claudin-1. In psoriasis models, the strain alleviates skin inflammation in a dose-dependent manner by modulating the gut microbiota, increasing colonic bile acid levels, and regulating the FXR/NF-κB axis to reduce the expression of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-17 and TNF-α. It is being investigated for use in both dietary supplements and potential clinical biotherapeutic applications.
