Overview

Bifidobacterium breve CNCM I-4035 is a proprietary probiotic strain isolated from the feces of exclusively breast-fed infants. It is investigated for its effects on gut and immune health. This strain exhibits immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties: it can modulate cytokine production by human intestinal dendritic cells, inducing both pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and IL-10, and is also reported to enhance gut immunoglobulin A (IgA) secretion and alter gut microbiota composition. The strain's cell-free culture supernatant (metabolites released into the medium) has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, including the down-regulation of pro-inflammatory pathways in response to pathogenic stimulation (such as Salmonella typhi), with increased activation of Toll-like receptor 9 signaling. Animal models suggest it may help reduce gut and systemic inflammation and promote mucosal immune tolerance[2][3][4][6][7][8].
