Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium breve strain Yakult + galacto-oligosaccharide is a synbiotic combination consisting of a specific probiotic bacterial strain and a prebiotic carbohydrate. Developed by Yakult, the therapy is designed to improve gut health by modulating the intestinal microbiota, increasing the population of beneficial bifidobacteria, and reducing the levels of potentially harmful bacteria such as Bacteroidaceae. In clinical studies for mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, the administration of this synbiotic has been shown to improve clinical status, reduce fecal pH, and decrease inflammatory markers like myeloperoxidase. It is also investigated for its potential to improve skin conditions by reducing systemic phenol levels produced by gut bacteria.
