Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bifidobacterium breve strain Yakult fermented milk is a probiotic dairy product containing the proprietary B. breve strain Yakult, developed by Yakult Honsha. This live biotherapeutic product is designed to deliver viable B. breve bacteria to the intestines via oral consumption of a fermented milk matrix. The mechanism of action involves modulation of gut microbiota through colonization and production of lactic acid and acetic acid, which help stimulate intestinal activity, improve bowel movements, inhibit growth of harmful bacteria in the gut, and prevent intestinal putrefaction by suppressing production of harmful substances[4][6]. Clinical studies have also suggested benefits for immunity and skin health[5][6]. The primary indication is for general digestive health and maintenance or improvement of gut flora.
