Bifidobacterium Cure 21 is a specific probiotic strain of *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* developed by the Swedish biotechnology company Probi AB. It is primarily investigated for its immunomodulatory and barrier-enhancing properties in the context of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). In clinical research, Cure 21 is frequently evaluated as part of a multi-strain probiotic formulation alongside *Lactobacillus plantarum* 299v (LP299v). This combination is intended to improve clinical outcomes in patients with ulcerative colitis, particularly those experiencing poor pelvic pouch function or pouchitis following ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA). The strain's therapeutic effect is attributed to its ability to stabilize the intestinal microbiota, produce beneficial metabolites like short-chain fatty acids, and reduce the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the gut mucosa.
